Terminology:

Pima Cotton: One of the best grades of cotton in the world. Egyptian and Supima cotton are top grade. Grown only in the southwest United States by the Pima Indians. It features long,l luxurious fibers used in high end home goods and yarn.

Modal: A manufactured fiber that's soft, smooth, shape retentive ( even when wet),durable, color - rich and lustrous.

Mercerized Cotton : A fiber treated with caustic soda to increase luster, strength, affinity to dye, resistance to mildew and also reduces lint. Sometimes known as Pearl Cotton, Perle Cotton which is a polyester core covered with cotton.

Combed : When a smoother, finer yarn is required, fibers are subjected to a further paralleling method. A comblike device arranges fibers into a parallel form, with short fibers falling out of the strand. Result: a luxurious yarn that is silky smooth.

Rayon:A group of smooth synthetic fibers manufactured from cotton linters, wood pulp and other vegetable matter. The benefits? Excellent softness, high absorption, dyes beautifully and has a lustrous look. Originally developed as an attempt to chemically create silk.

Viscose: The most common type of rayon manufactured from wood pulp and treated with chemicals. The resulting organic liquid is extruded through a spinneret to form viscose rayon. Developed in 1892. Viscose is soft, absorbent and color rich.

Boucle: A knobbly yarn that is created by two strands twisted together, one a thread the other a fuzzier thread.

Chenille: Incredibly soft, fuzzy yarn that stand out around a velvet cording. Derived from the French word for catapillar. Great for home accessories, and clothing. Available in rayon and cotton. Cotton is preferred for washcloth accessories.
